36619 Boddy, Ian & Reuter, Markus - Memento

We may not be a fan of the genres, of what is released from the DiN
studios, but if we give a chance to listen to an album of this factory
of multicolored sounds, we find ourselves in the bench of the
conquered ones. I fell in the Boddy/Reuter jar after the surprising
Derwish in 2009. I liked this atmosphere of King Crimson which
scatters a strange music in a parallel universe. And since, it's
always with an interest that I decorate my senses of this music which
flirts with so many kinds without losing its identity. “Momento” is
the 6th opus, if we count the boning of Derwish with Unwound in 2010,
from this duet of which the creative approaches are melting admirably
well in a sonic envelope which enchants as much as which shakes our
perception of contemporary EM.
A fluty breath floats with a beautiful perfume of serenity, while that
slowly "Gyroscope" prepares the sound feast of “Momento”. A line of
sequences draws a structure of ambient rhythm which rises and falls
with a tint of harmony in the tone. Heavy percussions fall, hammering
a soft and slow rhythm which is the ideal companion to an envelope a
bit dramatic which get free from this veil of ambient elements of
"Gyroscope". What jumps to the ears is this mass of sounds which
converge on a linear movement from where the tears of a plaintive
electric six-strings are floating. An example? The sequences are
always swirling lightly, the percussions tumble and roll again, layers
of voices and synth strata decorate a soundscape of paranoia of which
the nuances sneak through and get lost in a sound revival which tries
constantly to bind the threads of the sibylline ambiences which get
free of "Gyroscope" and from all of “Momento”. Afterward the structure
of rhythm returns with a more jerky approach without really
understanding too much how to builds up in an Electronica with a
flavor of Darkwave without word. The breaths of voice will do in this
hubbub, nevertheless s o well structured, where sounds and music
multiply in a Hertzian zone of control. The veil of these abstruse
ambiences are transformed into the funeral march in "Spindrift" where
the guitar of Markus Reuter reigns over a loud walking of the
percussions. Separated by phases of very polychromatic moods, the
movement goes in transit between a luciferian possession of the senses
and onsets of rhythms which remain more intense than lively. Yes! A
dark and intrusive music with phases of rhythms which raise constantly
the passions. That's the music of “Momento”! That's the music of Boddy/Reuter!
"Linger", like "Deadlock", offers these landscapes of black ambiences
with long hoarse laments which build up themselves in an intense
murmur of resounding and twisted drones. The guitar is edgy, in
particular in "Deadlock" which is more infernal than "Linger",
creating more anonymous, more spectral lamentations in "Linger" but
more viral ones in "Deadlock". Besides, the finale of "Deadlock" i s
going to pin you to your earphones. The title-track is a pure delight
with its Redshift, or Arc, movement of sequences and its King Crimson
moods. A surprising fusion in a literally lively structure where the
sequences adorn themselves of divine tones and where the guitar roams
as a starving spectre. A great track! And "Vermilion" is also just as
much with its thriving rhythm which sparkles on the agile skipping of
crystal clear sequences, and of its mesmerizing melody which is going
to cuddle your senses for a long time after. The sound aestheticism is
absolutely striking here with a less dark, but just as much obsessing
approach, and with a skillful synth and guitar fusion which forges a
fascinating envelope of vibes. After the deep immersion in the black
territories of "Deadlock", "Stay" is like a meditative and remorseful
prayer further to the impressive luciferian approach of this
cabalistic monument which is "Deadlock". It’s one finale of ambient
vibes with slow and wide wa v es of drones which wriggle like a huge
worm avoiding the sharp blades of a threatening guitar. An invitation
to make replay "Gyroscope" and to dive again, and always with more
pleasure, into this universe of sound discoveries where we shall be
rewarded and whose pinnacle, "Momento" and "Vermilion", requires a
good dose of chthonian moods. And at this level, we are more than
served with this wonderful album which is “Momento”! In stores on next

29082 Corbacho, Max - Future Terrain

One of my dreams came true!!! Yeah, definitely as this long-form piece
was originally released during the spring of 2015 as a digital
download only, in shorter 58-minute version. As far I remember, it was
just before "Splendid Labyrinths" CD was officially introduced.
"Future Terrain" has immediately received a lot of positive feedbacks
from many drone ambient connoisseurs across the globe, so when Max
Corbacho made the deal with Vitaly Savisko, the driving force behind
Moscow based enthusiastic GS Productions label, no wonder I was one of
the happiest guys on the planet, eagerly awaiting a glass mastered
edition of this dronescaping gem!!! Released January 10th, 2017 in a
limited edition of 100 copies, the CD comes in a really elegant matte
6-panel digipak featuring original cover image rendering by 3D artist
Lee Griggs with additional image treatment, cover design and layout by
visual artist Michael Rodriguez Pletz, who has already worked w ith
Max Corbacho on "Splendid Labyrinths" cover. The mastering duties are
handled by Ian Hawgood.

With pressing the play button on my CD player, I am immediately
carried away into awe-inspiringly immense sceneries fastidiously
displayed by ultra immersing cover images. Thrillingly unfathomable
free-floating drifts are meticulously magnified with gargantuan
humming magmas. Utterly expansive amorphous horizons persistently keep
on billowing and transmuting from desolately magnificent into heavenly
multidimensional graciousness, while spellbindingly monochromous drone
gurgles constantly reawake, permeate, cascade and climax through
ear-bending transcendental glimpses. Cinematic magnitudes
inconspicuously pervade across and join this exquisitely staggering
and disastrously thick drone scenario. Shifting from gracefully
monumental "Ars Lucis" majesty to intensely abysscaping "The Ocean
Inside" zones, from tremendously engrossing "Splendid Labyrinths"
enigmas to breathtakingly mo nolithic "Future Terrain" meridians. An
all-inclusive heavyweight aural spectacle unfolds all its atmospheric
magic here, masterfully amalgamating perpetually enveloping spheres of
spatial solitariness and mysterious infiniteness with vigorously
crescendoing ear-blowing reverberations and spectacularly helixing,
yet sweepingly panoramic vistas, here and there intriguingly augmented
by glancing monstrous calmness. Yes, 74-minute "Future Terrain"
precisely explores some of the most essential symmetries between
profoundly embracing endless spaciousness and prodigiously tenebrous zones.

Unmistakable audible insignias of Max Corbacho are relentlessly
glimmering through this powerfully transporting journey, exhibiting
some of the most nebulous, lower end graced domains this Spaniard has
ever carved during his stellar, nearly 20 years long recording career.
Balmily colossal realms are virtuosically juxtaposed by sonorously
devastating stratums, enter now "Future Terrain"!!! Huge t hanks to
Max & Vitaly for this physical edition!!! So guys, and what about
"Deep Time"...? Oh, and not to forget, Max Corbacho has just announced
two days ago the release of long awaited "Nocturnes" album, no release
date is set yet, but the album is at the pressing plant already, so
definitely keep an ear to the ground!!! Max Corbacho is one of the
undisputable masters of the deepest sonic meditations!!! And by the
way, since November 2016, there is available also extended digital
version of legendary "Indalo" collaborative album, now credited to Max
Corbacho only, with additional two tracks, each clocking to 20 minutes.

38693 Jarre, Jean Michel - Oxygene 3

The Wikipedia entry for this album contains an excerpt of an interview
with Jarre where he states that the genesis of it was during the
_Electronica_ sessions and " "made me think about what Oxygène could
be if I was composing it today." And that's the operative word here:
"today". Don't go in thinking that this is your father's
_Oxygene_--it's not. While the equipment list contains a few pieces of
vintage kit (and many more of their modern descendents), and the
composition has many soundforms familiar to longtime Jarre fans, this
is very much modern electronica that has much more in common with the
Jarre of the late '90s to now than of the mid-to-late '70s. It's much
more richly and complexly layered, with hardly any of the detached
elegance that so characterized the first _Oxygene_. Whereas _Oxygene
7-13_ had the same kind of relationship to the original that _Tubular
Bells 2_ did to its own predecessor, most of th e thematic material
here is all-new and not clearly derived from any of the old
_Oxygene_'s themes. The only exceptions are the chord progression of
"Oxygene 3" making a brief appearance at the end of "Pt. 16", and when
a muffled, distorted sample of "Oxygene 6" comes in as the bridge
between pts. 19 and 20--much like "Band In the Rain" on _Equinoxe_--it
sounds almost incongruous with the rest of the album. Indeed, in many
ways, the album is structurally more like Jarre's second album than
his first, particularly in the grandiose sweep of the final section
(which, arguably, should have been the first).

Were I Jarre, I wouldn't have tried to link this album to
_Oxygene_--it's simply impossible to un-learn and undo the past 40
years of personal and musical development. (I would've called it maybe
_Nitrogene_ or _Solstice_.)
If you go into it with that understanding then you'll find much to
appreciate, but if you're hoping for a trip down memory lane then
you'll be disappointed. NAME: Gabe Yedid

81427 David Wright & Carys - Prophecy

Muffled sonic waves put our senses in appetite. Without knowing really
if we float between the drifts of the cosmos or the depths of the
oceans, the tranquility of "Watching for Nephele" shines with azure
lines which are illuminated by sibylline harmonies and by panting
breaths from a flute of which the origin remains to determine. With
felted knockings and even more accentuated misty mood, the abstruse
ambiences of "Watching for Nephele" slide towards "Serinus Rising" and
its songs of sirens as well as its chirpings of a kind of aquatic
animal always to identify which enchant our ears always in appetite.
David Wright is unarguably one of the most beautiful composers of
contemporary EM. A little snubbed by the hard-liners who worship only
the Berlin School style, or the heavy English e-rock, this brilliant
English musician signs and persists with an EM always very
sophisticated and his English style which flirts profoundly with the
New Age. T he result turns into some very musical albums where his
melodious perfumes surf with the vestiges of his magnificent Walking
with Ghosts released in 2002 and of which we still look forward to its
re-issue. In fact, this David Wright's key album knew always how to
illuminate the harmonious ambiences of his up-coming albums and
“Prophecy” is not different except that it’s the album which gets the
most closer to it. Composed with the collaboration of the English
singer Carys, “Prophecy” is a wonderful journey towards this unknown
meeting point where the oceans pour towards the cosmos. An intense
album and, in my humble opinion, David Wright's most beautiful album
since 2002. And, considering the quality of his albums since then, it
means that it’s an album without flaws where the balance between the
moments of ambiences and the big explosive electronic rock of the
English style is completely exceptional.
Each title, like most of David Wright's albums by the way, is solidly
imbricat ed one to another, giving a superb musical story which is
just impossible to interrupt. "Night Tide" gets loose from the morphic
chants of "Serinus Rising" with a delicate movement of sequences which
winds up the unknown of its continual comings and goings. The
uncountable vocal breezes of Carys are like some kind of anesthetizing
perfumes and float behind this hypnotic movement which reveals a
splendid approach of a violin for which we have never expected to
tears up the moods. Idyllic, this orchestral harmony transports us
until the heavy and threatening "Diving Skywards" among whom the
effects of staccato of the violin and the atmospheres energised by a
storm to come exercise a rise of adrenalin. And it takes off! It
explodes with the astonishing saga of Ocean to Stars. "Ocean to Stars,
Pt. I" starts things up with a heavy rhythm which unifies techno and
the England School. We tap of both feet and we roll of the neck on
this very inviting rhythm where David Wright forges some ve r y
harmonious synth layers which he harmonizes with synth solos as much
catchy. And as usual, the founder of the AD Music label has this gift
to throw into his structures strands of melodies which will remain
anchored in our ears a very long time after the first listening. And
that’s the case with the one which unifies the 2 first parts of Ocean
to Stars. And if you don’t whistle on this melody that David Wright
transforms at the whim of his synth, I don’t know what to say! Ocean
to Stars pours on its 3rd part with a rhythmic always so lively and
where the voice of Carys and the synth violin effects sing this melody
eater of eardrums in a delicious soundscape of the East. These 22
minutes of “Prophecy” are going to haunt you my friends, and this for
a long time. "Absolute Zero" calms things down a little bit with a
delicate lunar lullaby which flows towards the morphic atmospheres of
"Whales Weep Not" with the voice of Carys which dominates the very
melancholic harmonies of the viol i n in an environment of
tranquillity where we find there a little Mind Over Matter's perfumes
from Music for Paradise. And if we believed to have reached the
nirvana with the trilogy of Ocean to Stars, "Cosmic Dancer" redefines
these parameters with a rhythm as lively which swirls with a seraphic
slowness in a superb duel between solos and orchestrations of a synth
in mode Walking with Ghosts. Impossible here to not draw this parallel
because the harmonious approach of "Cosmic Dancer" seems to be weaved
in the cave of this epic title of David Wright's catalog. "Quarter to
Yesterday" is another delicate lunar cradle song which knots the
orchestrations and the murmurs of Carys around a spiral harped by a
delicate keyboard. A very beautiful synth solo leads us to "Song of
Orcinius" where the celestial voice of Carys takes also the shape of
those aerial torsade up until the very lively rhythm of "Beyond the
Veil". What else to add? David Wright puts everything on it here with
his morphi c techno filled of those charms and those harmonies which
eat our eardrums. The play of the percussions is as well rich as solid
and the synth, always very just, throws harmonies under forms of solo
besides weaving orchestrations which fill the airs while the voice of
Carys adds even more to a charm as medieval as contemporary. And as
all good things must come to an end, "Where the Whales Still Sing"
ends “Prophecy” with a very intense and orchestral approach which
reminds to us how the music of Vangelis has influenced David Wright's visions.
“Prophecy” is an intense work! From the first second to the last one,
David Wright captivates us and enjoys firing us the hairs of the
backspine and the sighs of beatitude with an album rich in lively
rhythms and in melodies eaters of ears. While adding an element of
charm, the voice of Carys doesn't hinder at no moment David Wright's
highly melodious signature which is more intense than ever here with
rich orchestrations, solos which nail u s to our earphones and sound
effects which ally the oceans to the cosmos. In brief an album without
smudges that I have savoured my ears full to the top and where I was
telling myself how beautiful music is. How EM can be wonderful! And if
Walking with Ghosts was the reference album when we spoke about David
Wright, this “Prophecy” follows it from now on for years to come.

Most Groove releases are also available as Downloads on the Groove

Go to https://shop.groove.nl/ and shop around,
But there are also releases by many other artists among them John Kerr, Remy.

For those who are a costumer of CD Baby we have also a lot of titles there
for in their program and we try to keep up with the stock there..
And they are also available through I-Tunes and Amazon downloads!
These have been added this year.
